Location-Based Service Terms
Effective: 2026-07-29 · The previous version (effective 2026-07-06) is superseded by these terms.
This is an English translation provided for your convenience. The Korean version is the authoritative text and prevails in case of any discrepancy.
These terms govern the rights, obligations and responsibilities between Alleydex (Korean name 줍냥이; the “App”) and you, the subject of personal location
information, in relation to the location-based service the App provides, along with other necessary matters. The App complies with the Korean
Act on the Protection and Use of Location Information (the “Location Information Act”).
Article 1 (Purpose)
The purpose of these terms is to set out the conditions and procedures for using the location-based service provided by the App, and the rights and obligations of the App and of the user.
Article 2 (Effect and amendment of these terms)
- These terms take effect when posted within the App or on this page.
- The App may amend these terms to the extent that doing so does not violate the Location Information Act or other applicable laws. Amendments are posted on this page, and changes that materially affect your rights are additionally announced within the App.
Article 3 (Content of the service)
- The App uses a coarse location in order to show where you “met” an animal on the minimap on the back of a card.
- It uses only a coarse location blurred to a range of roughly 200–500 m rather than a precise position, and precise coordinates are never stored.
- To display the map image, the blurred coarse location and your device's IP address are transmitted to the map tile provider (MapTiler AG, abroad).
- If you sign in and use the backup feature, the blurred coarse location recorded on a card is stored on the developer-operated server as part of that card's data (Article 5).
Article 4 (Service fees)
This location-based service is provided free of charge.
Article 5 (Collection, use and retention of personal location information)
- The App queries the device's location once, at the moment you create a card, and uses only the coarse location obtained by blurring that position to a range of roughly 200–500 m. Precise coordinates are not stored, and the App does not track your location continuously or collect it in real time.
- If you are not signed in: the coarse location is stored only on your device and is not transmitted to the operator's server. When you view the map on the back of a card, however, it is transmitted to the map tile provider as described in Article 3 in order to render the map.
- If you are signed in and use the backup feature: the coarse location is stored, together with the card name, capture time and other card data, on the developer-operated server (Supabase, Seoul region ap-northeast-2 in the Republic of Korea), linked to your account. It is stored for the purpose of backing up and restoring your collection when you change or reinstall on a device, and is not used for any other purpose.
- A coarse location stored on the server is deleted when you delete that card or delete your account.
- The App does not use personal location information for advertising, marketing or profiling.
Article 6 (Provision of personal location information to third parties, and notification)
- The App does not provide personal location information to third parties without your prior consent.
- However, to display the map on the back of a card, the blurred coarse location and the device IP must be transmitted to the map tile provider (MapTiler AG, abroad); this processing follows from your act of viewing the map. The App operator has not been able to verify the map provider's retention period, which follows that provider's own policy.
- If the App provides a service that supplies personal location information to a third party designated by you, it will notify you on each occasion of the recipient, the date and time of provision and the purpose. The App currently has no such feature.
- You may designate the method of the notification above, or withhold or withdraw consent to provision to a third party.
Article 7 (Rights of the subject of personal location information)
- You may withdraw all or part of your consent to the use and provision of location information at any time.
Location use can be turned off per app under
Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services on iOS (or Settings > Apps > Alleydex > Permissions > Location on Android),
and cross-border transfer consent can be withdrawn on the Collection > Privacy & Consent screen in the App.
- Even if you do not grant the location permission, the App's other features (taking photos, generating cards, the collection) remain usable; only the map on the back of a card is not displayed.
- You may request access to, and notification of, the records confirming the collection, use and provision of your personal location information, and request correction of any errors. Send requests to
tsetse012@gmail.com; the App will act without delay unless there is a legitimate reason not to.
- You may delete the coarse location the App holds about you by deleting an individual card or your account. Deleting an individual card also deletes that card's coarse location stored on the server.
- If you withdraw consent, the App stops collecting location information without delay, and destroys the personal location information and confirmation records already collected upon your request (except for records subject to the statutory retention duty in Article 9, which are kept for that period).
Article 8 (Rights of legal representatives and guardians)
The App is not directed at children under the age of 14. Where the App intends to use or provide the personal location information of a person requiring protection —
a child aged 8 or under, a person under adult guardianship, or a person with a severe disability under the Act on Welfare of Persons with Disabilities —
the consent of the guardian is required, and the guardian's consent is deemed to be the consent of the person concerned. A guardian may exercise all of the rights that the person concerned holds as the subject of personal location information.
Article 9 (Retention of records confirming the use and provision of location information)
- Pursuant to Article 16(2) of the Location Information Act, the App automatically records and preserves records confirming the use and provision of personal location information in its location information system. The retention period is 6 months.
- These records contain the date and time personal location information was used or provided, the use/provision type, the recipient (the App server or the map provider) and the count. The coordinate values themselves are not included.
- This article was newly added in the 29 July 2026 amendment. The previous terms contained wording to the effect that “the App does not store personal location information on a server and therefore keeps no confirmation records”; because the introduction of the backup feature means coarse locations are now stored on the server, that wording has been removed and the statutory retention duty is performed.
Article 10 (Destruction of personal location information)
- When you delete a card or delete your account, the corresponding coarse location stored on the server is destroyed without delay in a manner that makes it unrecoverable.
- Coarse locations stored on your device are removed when you delete the card, reset your collection or delete the App.
- The confirmation records under Article 9 are destroyed once the retention period (6 months) has elapsed.
Article 11 (Location information manager)

Article 12 (Damages and limitation of liability)
- Where a user suffers loss because the App has breached Articles 15 through 26 of the Location Information Act, the App bears liability in accordance with the applicable law.
- Liability may, however, be limited to the extent permitted by applicable law for service disruptions caused by force majeure, by the user's own intent or negligence, or by third parties such as telecommunications carriers, device manufacturers or the map provider.
Article 13 (Dispute resolution)
The App will confer with the user on disputes relating to location information. If no agreement is reached, the user may apply for mediation to the
Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee under the Personal Information Protection Act (1833-6972, kopico.go.kr),
or to the Korea Communications Commission under the Telecommunications Business Act.
